The tour familiarizes you to the geography and cultural heritages of this region very well. Tibet is a desert-like landscape beyond the Himalayas because it receives very little rainfall. But, historically, it has been a hotbed of Buddhism. A number of monasteries this trip covers gives you intimate insights into how Buddhism has made a deep imprint upon everyday life of the people living here.

Itinerary Outline

Day 1: Kathmandu (1,300m) - Zhangmu (2,500m)

Day 2: Nyalam - Xegar (4,050m): 244km

Day 3: Xegar - Shigatse (3,900m)

Day 4: Xigatze - Gyantse (3,950m)

Day 5: Gyantse - Lhasa (3,650m)

Day 6 and 7: Touring in Lhasa.

Day 8: Lhasa -Kathmandu

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Kathmandu (1,300m) - Zhangmu (2,500m)
Early morning scenic drive to Kodari (Nepal - Tibet border) through the beautiful Nepalese countryside. After necessary border formalities both at Nepalese and Chinese immigration, check in at Cai Yuan Hotel.

Day 2: Nyalam - Xegar (4,050m): 244km
Drive uphill to the highest plateau of the world, also known as the 'Roof of the World' and enjoy the fantastic views from there. Later, cross the pass at Lalung La (5,050 m) from where you can see a breathtaking panorama of the beautiful Himalayan Range including Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m) and Mt. Xishapagma (8,012m).

Day 3: Xegar - Shigatse (3,900m)
Continue the scenic drive crossing over Gyatchu La (5,220m), the highest pass en route to Lhasa via Lhatse from where a road to Mt. Kailash bifurcates to the west.

Day 4: Xigatze - Gyantse (3,950m)
Sightseeing in the morning to the Panchen Lama’s Tashilhumpu monastery. Drive to Gyantse and visit Kumbum Stupa & Pholkor Monastery.

Day 5: Gyantse - Lhasa (3,650m)
Full day picturesque drive crossing over Karola (5,010m), Kambala (4,794m), and the colorful
Yamdrok Lake plus the Tibetan lifeline river Bramha Putra (Yarlung Tsangpo). Overnight at Kyichu Hotel.

Day 6 and 7: Touring in Lhasa.
Visiting Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Bazar, Potala Palace, Dupung & Sera Monasteries in Lhasa requires two full days. Overnight at Kyichu Hotel.

Day 8: Lhasa -Kathmandu
Early morning drive to the airport and fly back to Kathmandu on an exciting flight over the Himalayas. On arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel.

Guidelines

Fitness Level:
This trip requires you to be in good health and physically fit. So, we recommend thorough physical examination before you start the trek.

Skills:
Your adaptation with high altitude will be a plus point because most of this trip takes place in high altitude.

  • Make sure that you are insured against cancellations, accidents, health, emergency evacuation and loss, theft of, or damage to, baggage and personal effects.
