Tamang Heritage Trail

Introduction

Tamang Heritage Trail | Outdoor Himalayan Treks, Nepal

Tamang Heritage Trail, besides being a top trekking destination with its unspoilt natural beauty and exotic ethnic Tamang culture, is historically very important for Nepal.  On top of its use as a passage to trade with Tibet, all of the military missions from Nepal went to Tibet from this region. In the past, Nepal had fought several wars with Tibet centering mainly on trade disputes, and sometimes the fighting took place in this very region. If we look at the ethnography and culture of Tamang people of this region, we find that much of their custom and culture resembles that of Tibet region. Because people here had more interaction with Tibet rather than with the people in the south, the Tibetan influence is considerable. You will experience the mix of the culture of Nepal and Tibet.

Tamang Heritage Trail is a recently developed trail in the Langtang region in comparison to other routes of Nepal. Intending to promote the rich natural beauty and cultural heritage of the area, the government of Nepal launched Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Program in 2001 in assistance with UNDP. The program developed this area as Tamang Heritage Trail, which stands as an important contribution to Nepal tourism. The trail features exotic dances and other rituals of Tamang people. All the while the Himalayan ranges in the north make a beautiful background of the tour. So, you get to taste the double joy of being home to a rich ethnic culture of Nepal and equally rich natural endowments of the area. There are also natural hot springs for you to take a dip, and kill off your fatigue of up-and-down walks.
