Paldor Peak Ascent

Introduction

Paldor Peak Ascent | Outdoor Himalayan Treks

One of the attractive trekking peaks in the Himalayan frontier north of the Kathmandu valley, Paldor Peak (5923m) has been a locus of alpine enthusiasts ever since it was first climbed in 1947. The peak rises imperially to considerable height between Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung, commanding incredible scenery of these peaks and many others including Manaslu. Although less than 6000 meters, there are steep sections of ice and snow to be crossed to reach the summit. Climbers can follow the south-east ridge or the north-east ridge or a combination of both to reach the summit. In general, one high camp is established above the base camp, from where the summit is accessible within 6-7 hours in favorable weather.

Like all trekking peaks and mountaineering expeditions in Nepal, the approach to the peak and the return from provide worthwhile trekking experiences. The shortest and quickest route to the peak is via Syabru Besi, the entry point to Langtang valley in most of the treks to this place. A relatively longer but exciting route goes through Sundarijal via Helambu and Gosainkunda. Whatever route you choose, you enjoy a detailed exploration of the Langtang valley, as the peak is located to the north of it.
