Gangtok, Kalimpong, and Darjeeling Discovery

Introduction

Amiable people, spellbinding tea plantations, majestic Himalayan peaks, cool air, and captivating hilltops offering amazing views of sunrise and sunset make some of the attractions of Darjeeling, a city developed as a summer retreat from the time of British colonial period in India. Darjeeling as a town and its surroundings perfectly invoke a hill Shangri-la image with their outstanding sceneries, dominated by the Kanchenjunga and other Himalayas in the north-west. While the taste of the orthodox Darjeeling tea will captivate your tongue, the sunrise view from the Tiger Hill will set the benchmark for beauteous natural scene. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, still running on steam-power and included in UNESCO Heritage List, reminds you of the past of the town when it was under the British rule.
Like Darjeeling, Kalimpong is another spectacular hill station in the lap of the Himalayas with notable Buddhist spiritual centers and offering awesome views of the Teesta River. Rivaling with both Darjeeling and Kalimpong in location and natural beauty is Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. Together, a tour through these three cities distills the best that the eastern Himalayan states of India can offer.
